When I first created the Penny Farthing coin necklace back in 2015, it was a quiet experiment—an idea born from a simple love of symmetry, connection, and vintage charm. Two coins, different in size, nestled together. Much like the wheels of the iconic Penny Farthing bicycle: one bold, one humble, both journeying in the same direction.
At the time, I made only a small batch. A limited edition that resonated with those looking for something symbolic—something that felt balanced and beautiful in its duality. And then, like many early designs, it quietly found its place in the background of the workshop shelves before travelling on to pastures new. In fact, the ten I made left out workshop very quickly, no time to gather dust or make friends with other coins. From Canada to France and New Zealand, those little pieces of Britain scattered themselves across our world.
But some stories don’t fade. A part of them lingers in my heart, sometimes for years, waiting to be reinvigorated.
This year, almost a decade later, I felt called to revisit the piece. To bring it gently forward again—but this time, with intention and refinement. The 2025 version features our signature bronze paired with soft rose gold soldered bails, suspended from a quality vermeil chain that moves with subtle grace. It’s more streamlined now, the vermeil is thicker and more durable, the chain is slightly weightier, but still grounded in the spirit of its original concept.
There’s something about this necklace that speaks of togetherness. Of bonds that are unspoken, yet deeply felt. I’ve been hearing from customers who see their parents in this pairing. Their siblings. Their partners. Even their children, born in different years, forever connected. Then wren symbolises family, loyalty and humility which is so beautiful, and the penny signifies the bonds of the British people, no matter where they are in the world.
Perhaps that’s the quiet power of these coins—one slightly larger than the other, each carrying a date, a history, a name. Set side by side, they become a wearable conversation. A moment frozen in metal. A gift of meaning.
Some wear them for sentimental reasons. Others simply love the design. But in all cases, they’re more than just adornment. They’re memory made tangible.
A nod to where we've been.
And a keepsake for where we’re going next.
